Why Teach Tamagalie?

Where is Tamagalie Christian Primary School to be located?

Tamagalie Christian Primary School will be built in Tamagalie, a Susu community in the Alimamy Nfasumana Section of Northwest Sierra Leone. It is 5 miles Northwest of the headquarter town Kukuna, in the Bramaia Chiefdom, Kambia District, and 6 miles south of the border of Guinea. It is also 14 miles from Madina Junction, the town where many of our cooperating partners live.    

When will Tamagalie Christian School open? 

In September 2021, Tamagalie Christian Primary School officially opened. The current student population is 111 children ages 5-12, under the leadership of acting Head Teacher, Alhasan Lansana Kamara. For now, classes are being held in a temporary location, with plans underway for the construction of 2 classrooms, 4 latrines, and a well to serve the school and greater community.

When is the projected school year to begin? 

The school year begins in mid-September and runs through mid-July.

How long will the school day be? 

The school day is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We also have plans to include a school lunch for each student.

What are the ages of the children at the Primary School? 

Students to be enrolled are 5 years old, 1st grade through 6th grade, age 12.

Instruction will be given in what language?  

The children are learning English, which is essential for higher education. The teachers speak both English and Susu.

What subjects are taught? 

Instruction will focus on the foundational core subjects of reading, writing, English, math, science, and Christian Education. 

How many staff members will there be? 

Our acting Head Teacher is Alhasan Lansana Kamara and he is being assisted by 4 teachers in training. Administrative oversite is being provided by Fr William Sonny Brown, Fr Augustus Amadu Sankoh, Mr. Mohamed Daffae.

How many children will be educated at TCPS? 

Our current student population is 111 children from the village of Tamagalie. When the 5300 square foot school building is completed with 6 proposed classrooms, an administrative office, supply room, and an assembly hall, we hope to serve a student population of nearly 300 children coming from Tamagalie and 8 surrounding villages. All of the surrounding communities will be blessed by our school well.
