The Story of Tamagalie Christian Primary School

The Tamagalie Christian Primary School has evolved over the past four years and it has been exciting to watch!

In 2019 the village leadership and several motivated, educated, young Tamagalie men were determined to hold school lessons for the children. They constructed a small one-room hut complete with benches and a blackboard, and they began volunteering their time to instruct the children. Our US team was happy to send resources to them and provide many needed supplies.

In 2020, the village constructed a larger hut consisting of three sections and an office space, where they continued to hold classes led by volunteer teachers.

In 2021, the Tamagalie Christian Primary School was officially launched with an enrollment of 111 children led by acting Head Teacher Lansana Kamara and a staff of four additional teachers: Abubakarr Jawara, Nabie Dumbuya, Nabie Kamara, and Foday Sherriff. Educational oversight was provided by Fr William Sonny Brown and Mr. Mohamed Daffae who live in Madina, Sierra Leone.

At the start of the 2022-2023 school year, TCPS enrollment increased to 130 students ages 3-11. To help with the day-to-day running of the school, two more staff members were added. N'Mah Kamara is assisting in class 1 with the youngest children and Saidu Sillah is helping with community relations and groundskeeping.

At the beginning of September of 2023 we broke ground on the construction of the permanent building for TCPS. As of March 2024 construction was completed and our 145 students joyfully began lessons in their new school.

Our USA Teach Tamagalie Team works closely with the teachers and administrators and provides funding for ongoing teacher training, monthly teacher stipends, school supplies, and uniforms.
